Status of Women in Islam
Women in Islam:-
Islam has honored women and freed them from subordination and servitude to men. It has also liberated them from being a cheap commodity with no respect or honor whatsoever.
In Islam, there is no difference between men and women when it comes to their relationship with Allah, both are promised the same reward for good conduct and the same punishment for evil conduct.
Allah says in the Holy Quran chapter 16 verse 97: ”Whoever does good, whether male or female, and is a believer, we will surely bless them with good life, and we will certainly reward them according to the best of their deeds.”
Allah says in the Holy Quran chapter 2 verse 228: “And women have rights equal to their obligations in accordance with what is fair.”
Before Islam, women were being killed at the time of their birth, they were being sold out and inherited, Islam granted women a lot of rights that were robustly taken from them.
-Islam grants women the right to inherit.
-Islam grants them the right to choose their husbands.
-Women in Islam are a completely independent personalities, they can make any contract, and they can make their own bequest in their own name
-Islam makes it the husband’s duty to spend on those women entitled to his support, such as his wife, mother, and daughters.
-Islam stresses the importance of helping weak women who are in need of support, even if they are not one’s relatives, and urges its followers to engage in such a noble act.
Allah says in the Holy Quran chapter 4 verse 19:"O believers, it is not permissible for you to inherit women against their will or mistreat them to make them return some of the dowry as a ransom for divorce-unless they are found guilty of adultery. And treat them fairly, if you happen to dislike them, you may hate something which Allah turns into a great blessing." (4:19)
There is a whole chapter in the Holy Quran named "Women". It is chapter 4 in the Holy Quran, it describes exactly all of their rights, no other book ever does so.
The Prophet Muhammad PBUH said:” Women are the twin halves of men.”
Allah emphasizes the unity of men and women in the most beautiful simile in chapter 2 verse 187: ”They (Your wives) are your garment and you are a garment for them.”
Before Islam women were treated worse than animals and suffered from cruelties, Islam came to stop all of this and the Prophet Muhammad PBUH preached kindness towards women, he preached “Fear Allah in respect of women” and “the best of you are they who behave best to their wives.”
Islam stresses the importance of wearing modest clothes to be known as a Muslim woman and be treated based on this, Allah commanded every Muslim woman to wear modest clothes and covers her body and hair, Allah says in the Holy Quran chapter 33 verse 59: ”O Prophet, tell your spouses and your daughters and the women of the believers to make their outer garments hang low over them; that is more likely that they will be recognized and not hurt. And Allah has always been oft-Forgiving, Bestowing of mercy.”
Woman as a mother has great respect in Islam, Allah speaks in the Holy Quran in a number of verses about the right of the mother and enjoins Muslims to respect their mothers and show them mercy even if they are unbelievers.
Allah says in the Holy Quran chapter 31 verse 14:” And We have commanded people to “honour” their parents. Their mothers bore them through hardship upon hardship”
Allah says in the Holy Quran chapter 17 verse 23:” Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and honour your parents.”
